Mets in free fall after losing 10th straight game
CHICAGO — The Mets will have to defy the odds if they plan on making the postseason this year after dropping their 10th consecutive game Saturday, a 4-2 loss to the Cubs.
Only three teams in the divisional era (since 1969) have made the postseason after a double-digit losing streak, including last year's Cleveland Guardians.
"No one is going to feel sorry for us," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said after the latest defeat. "We have to keep going. We haven't been playing good baseball. We have 5½ months ahead. We have the opportunity to write our own story."
The Mets say they can't point to any single thing that has led them to their longest April losing streak in franchise history. They certainly aren't hitting enough, scoring just 18 runs during the streak, the fewest for them over 10 games since June 3-5, 2018.
Mets extend losing streak to 11 games after falling in extra innings
For just the 12th time in franchise history, the New York Mets have an 11-game losing streak. They dropped No. 11 in heartbreaking fashion Sunday, having taken a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning before falling in 10 innings, 2-1, to the Cubs.
The Mets swapped out starting pitchers and used David Peterson as a length guy in relief. It worked out well, with the Mets holding that lead going to the ninth. Ian Happ singled and then pinch runner Scott Kingery came home to score the tying run on a pinch-hit Michael Conforto double. Mets closer Devin Williams had blown the save and the game headed to extras.

Mets' skid hits 10 as Peralta's efforts undone immediately after he exits
CHICAGO — If there was ever a matchup to snap the Mets’ nine-game skid, this was it.
Freddy Peralta, who owned more wins (nine) and struck out more batters (131) against the Cubs than any other team in his career from his time with the Brewers, made his first start against the North Siders as a Met on Saturday in familiar territory at Wrigley Field.
Instead of playing stopper, however, Peralta was unable to finish the sixth inning in the Mets’ 4-2 loss. New York has now lost 10 straight for the first time since dropping 11 in a row in 2004. That club finished 71-91.
