Darren Fletcher has an opportunity to make a unique piece of Premier League history when he takes charge of Manchester United on Wednesday.

United have turned to their under-18 manager Fletcher to temporarily replace Ruben Amorim, who was sacked.

Fletcher's short-term appointment means that he will be in charge of not one but two of his sons, Jack Fletcher and Tyler Fletcher, who are part of United's first-team squad amid a sea of injuries and AFCON exits.

Jack and Tyler, who are 18-year-old twins, were both on the bench for the draw away at Leeds, Amorim's final game in charge of the club, and are now faced with the novelty of being available for selection under their father.

What will Fletch's United look like?

Darren Fletcher has described the opportunity to take charge of Manchester United in an interim capacity as "an amazing honour".

Our former midfielder and current Under-18s boss will lead the team for Wednesday's Premier League game away to Burnley, after Ruben Amorim departed his role as head coach on Monday.

Fletcher has since been tasked with preparing the squad for the trip to Turf Moor and took a brief break from that ongoing work to speak with the media at our pre-match press conference, held earlier today (Tuesday) at Carrington.

Darren started that briefing by explaining what it means to him to take on the role, before going on to provide more of an insight into a busy last 24 hours and our preparations for the clash with the Clarets.

As press conferences by Manchester United head coaches go, this was somewhat less eventful than the last.

A little more than 48 hours since Ruben Amorim brought his time in charge to a dramatic end by arguing that he is “a manager and not a ‘coach”, Darren Fletcher could only talk of the “honour” it will be to lead a United side against Burnley at Turf Moor tomorrow night.

There were no broadsides at the sporting director or the scouting department. There were never going to be. Fletcher is the safe pair of hands United have chosen to guide them through this tumultuous week, perhaps beyond if necessary.
