Update: Sullivan County placed under a snow squall warning until 3 a.m. Thursday — gusts to hit 35 mph
The National Weather Service released an updated snow squall warning at 2:45 a.m. on Thursday in effect until 3:30 a.m. for Sullivan County.
"At 2:45 a.m., a dangerous snow squall was located along a line extending from Damascus to Dunmore to Buckhorn, moving east at 40 mph," comments the weather service. "Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous within minutes."
Locations impacted by the warning include Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, Dunmore, Kingston, Nanticoke, Plains, Old Forge, Bushkill and Pittston.
The weather service comments, "Reduce speed and turn on headlights! During snow squalls, the visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions."
Berks and Lehigh counties under a snow squall warning early Thursday morning – gusts may reach 35 mph
On Thursday at 3:11 a.m. a snow squall warning was released by the National Weather Service in effect until 4:15 a.m. for Berks and Lehigh counties.
"At 3:10 a.m., a dangerous snow squall was located along a line extending from near West Hazleton to near Tower City to Marysville, moving east at 40 mph," says the weather service. "Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous within minutes."
Locations impacted by the warning include Allentown, Reading, Emmaus, Wyomissing, Kutztown, Hamburg, Fleetwood, Sinking Spring, Laureldale, Womelsdorf, Wernersville, Topton, Robesonia, Leesport, Shoemakersville, Bernville, Lyons, Strausstown, Lenhartsville and Spring Ridge.
The weather service adds, "Slow Down! Rapid changes in visibility and road conditions are expected with this dangerous snow squall. Be alert for sudden whiteout conditions."
