Trump administration settles lawsuit with ex-Trump adviser Carter Page
The Justice Department has reached a settlement in a lawsuit brought by former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, who sued the DOJ and FBI over flawed government surveillance he faced due to his Russian contacts in 2016, according to a filing with the Supreme Court Wednesday.
Page, who investigators focused on during their probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, is one of a growing number of past Trump allies who have reached legal settlements with the administration during Trumpâs second term.
In 2016, investigators wiretapped Page through the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, a hotly debated probing tool federal investigators use with cases involving a foreign nexus. An inspector general report said the process used to obtain the warrant to monitor Page was riddled with mistakes and errors.
Justice Department settles lawsuit brought by Trump-Russia probe subject Carter Page
The Justice Department has settled a lawsuit brought by Carter Page, the former Trump campaign adviser who was a key figure in the federal probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
“No American should ever face covert and unlawful surveillance based on their political view,” a Justice Department spokesman said in a statement Thursday after the deal was revealed in a court filing. “The investigation into Carter Page — a man never charged with a single crime — relied on inherently flawed and uncorroborated information, proving it was a political sham from the get-go.”
Page’s lawsuit alleged he was the victim of illegal surveillance based in part on findings from the DOJ’s inspector general that the warrants used in the probe “lacked probable cause and were ‘unlawfully obtained.’”

Trump administration reaches $1.25 million settlement with ex-Trump campaign adviser Carter Page
Washington — The Trump administration has reached a settlement agreement with ex-Trump campaign aide Carter Page over his claims arising out of surveillance warrants obtained by the FBI during its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
The settlement is for $1.25 million, according to a source familiar with the settlement discussions.
Solicitor General D. John Sauer wrote in a filing with the Supreme Court that the Trump administration and Page had "agreed to settle" his claims against the U.S. government Tuesday. The brief was submitted in response to Page's appeal of a lower court decision dismissing his lawsuit against the Justice Department, the FBI and eight named individuals. Among those Page named in his lawsuit were former FBI Director James Comey, former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and ex-FBI officials Kevin Clinesmith, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, along with a slew of unnamed FBI employees.
