Mid-Air Delivery: Baby born on Delta flight minutes before landing at PDX
A mid-air miracle happened when a Portland-bound Delta flight turned into an unplanned delivery room on Friday night.
Delta Airlines confirmed that a baby was born on board Delta 478 from Atlanta to Portland, while the plane was about a half hour away from the Portland International Airport.
A doctor, two nurses, and flight attendants helped deliver the baby, Delta says, and the flight was met by EMS when it landed at the airport.
"Portland Airport Fire & Rescue found everyone in stable condition upon arrival," Port of Portland Communications Manager Kara Hansen said.
When the emergency dispatch initially went out at about 9:30 p.m., paramedics were initially told the woman was having contractions for 35 minutes.
Baby born on Delta airplane, midflight from Atlanta to Portland
PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A Delta flight took to the skies from Atlanta with 153 customers in tow, but there was one more passenger on board once the plane landed at Portland International Airport on Friday.
It was a normal night in the sky for Delta Flight 478 when the unthinkable happened.
“It was pretty wild just to see it all happen,” said an eyewitness.
Atlanta resident Jess Cushenberry was traveling to Portland with her daughter, Taylor, when there was a medical emergency in the back of the plane Friday night.
But then, shortly after — less than a half hour from landing at PDX — there was another emergency.
