FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Much cooler today with gusty winds developing

Temperatures Saturday morning are in the upper 50s to upper 60s under mostly clear skies.

A cold front positioned just north of our area as of 5 am is quickly moving southward. It will cross our region on Saturday.

Behind the front, strong onshore winds arrive with some gusts at the beaches above 40-45 mph. This will create very hazardous seas and surf.

The onshore winds will eventually usher in thick cloud cover all across the area. This will help lower temperatures in the afternoon into the 50s in some coastal locations.

Some drizzle or very light rain is possible in a few spots on Saturday.

Jacksonville faces severe drought and fire danger as heat wave continues, News4JAX meteorologist warns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – I want you to know right up front—our drought monitor is showing some of the most extreme conditions we’ve seen lately. We’re in the “exceptional” category in some areas around Jacksonville and The Weather Authority’s Exact Track 4D radar just isn’t picking up any incoming rain.

Exceptional is the highest drought level we can experience. It’s downright dangerous, and it means we need to take that fire risk very seriously. You might already be hearing reminders to conserve water; I recommend watering lawns only once a week for now. I’m cheering you on—most people are already pitching in to help, which is great!

Inland Flagler County under red flag warning. What you need to know.

Inland Flagler County is under a red flag warning until 7 p.m. March 22, according to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville.

Today's dry, breezy and unusually warm weather combined with the area's "critically dry fuel beds" have created "critical wildfire conditions" this afternoon and into the evening, the warning said.

The warning also includes western St. Johns and Duval counties as well as portions of inland Northeast Florida between the I-95 and I-75 corridors, the warning said.

The NWS said those not directly in the red flag zone still face an elevated danger and should be cautious.

A high of 87 is expected in Bunnell this afternoon, with a southwest wind of around 9 mph and gusts as high as 15 mph, the NWS said. Temperatures are expected to drop overnight, with a low of 55 and a west wind between 3 and 7 miles an hour.
