N.J. weather: Up to 4 inches of snow today, another 1 to 2 inches Sunday in back-to-back winter storms
Back-to-back winter storms will bring snow to New Jersey this weekend with 2 to 4 inches expected Saturday in northern counties, followed by 1 to 2 inches of snow Sunday in the southern half of the state.
The heaviest accumulations from Saturday’s storm are expected north of Interstate 78, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday for Morris, Sussex, Warren and western Passaic counties.
“Travel could become treacherous at times,” the weather service said. “Snowfall rates of over 1 inch per hour possible from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. north of I-78.”
For counties between I-78 and I-95, accumulations will be limited to around 1 inch or less.
Weather advisory issued for northwest New Jersey on Jan. 17
A winter weather advisory has been issued for northwest New Jersey until 4 p.m. Jan. 17, according to the National Weather Service.
Offices in Philadelphia/Mt. Holly report a 50% to 80% chance of snow turning, with a chance of snow returning in the evening, mainly north of Route 78. South of Route 78 will see a mix of snow and rain or just rain.
Offices in Brookhaven, New York, predict a "slight" chance of rain, high of 41 degrees, with a 70% chance of rain or snow on Sunday, Jan. 18.
Bob Ziff with the North Jersey Weather Observers reports a "trace" of snow in Ramsey and half an inch in Vernon, "with more to come later this (Jan. 17) afternoon."
