One of Michigan football's top recruits requests release from signing

Michigan football just lost one of its most important recruits just a few hours after news broke that the Wolverines are finalizing a deal with Utah coach Kyle Whittingham.

It's unclear if it's related to the switch to Whittingham from Moore, but 2026 four-star wide receiver recruit Brady Marchese will request a release from his signing to Michigan, according to On3.

It's big news, because the Wolverines needs some help in playmaking at wide receiver – U-M has only one returning wideout (Andrew Marsh) with at least 20 catches this season. But with Whittingham's revival and a big staff shuffle incoming, it's not terribly unexpected.

Michigan football loses 2026 signee, WR Brady Marchese

Michigan football hasn’t even officially announced that it’s hiring Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham to be the new leader of the Wolverines, yet, the maize and blue have their first casualty.

Many current players and signees have been playing wait-and-see after Sherrone Moore was fired, wanting to see who would get the nod in Ann Arbor. Two signees didn’t wait, however, with Bear McWhorter flipping to Auburn and Matt Ludwig flipping to Texas Tech. However, another is on their way out.

Hailing from Cartersville, Georgia, Brady Marchese flipped from the in-state Bulldogs to Michigan football the day after signing day. It was a huge coup for the Wolverines. However, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the four-star wide receiver is asking for a release from his NLI.
