The surprise team no one saw coming could win the AFC after a stunning upset Sunday
With the Kansas City Chiefs already eliminated from playoff contention (and now down to their third-string quarterback), a new team will have to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl for the first time since 2022.
On Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced themselves as a contender to be that representative.
The Jaguars pulled off one of the best wins of the NFL season in Week 16, upsetting the Denver Broncos on the road 34-20, ending an 11-game winning streak by the Broncos.
“A small-market team like us can come into Mile High and get it done,” Jacksonville head coach Liam Coen said in his postgame news conference, referring to a perceived dig by Denver head coach Sean Payton in the lead-up to the game.
Updated Jacksonville Jaguars' Week 17 injury report
Here are the latest injury updates from the Jacksonville Jaguars' second practice of Week 17.
The team announced on Thursday that cornerback Jourdan Lewis was placed on injured reserve. He suffered a foot injury against Denver.
According to Tom Pelissero, Lewis will undergo surgery and will be out for the season.
The Jaguars did make a corresponding addition to bolster their cornerback depth.
For the second day in a row, Bhayshul Tuten (finger) was limited. Also limited were Tim Patrick (foot), Montaric Brown (neck), Greg Newsome (shoulder), and Jalen McLeod (ankle).
The Jaguars are currently working through a few injuries at the cornerback position.

Missed tackles, third-down struggles doom the Broncos defense: 'We didn't execute'
DENVER — The Broncos' defense had fueled much of the team's 11-game winning streak heading into Sunday's game with the Jacksonville Jaguars, thanks in large part to being the NFL's best unit on third down and in the red zone.
They struggled in both areas in a 34-20 loss at Empower Field at Mile High. The Jaguars went 8-of-15 (53.3%) on third down and scored touchdowns on four of their five red zone possessions, a big reason why Denver lost for the first time since Week 3. Even a five-sack night, which helped the Broncos tie a single-season franchise record with 63, felt rather empty.
