Michigan interim head coach Biff Poggi should be ashamed of himself

Biff Poggi made a comment that really rubbed us the wrong way. Here’s that comment, and why he should no longer be a Michigan Football head coach candidate:

Michigan will play in one final football game in 2025, as the Wolverines will take on the Texas Longhorns in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve (3 p.m., ABC).

The team will be without at least three players, as Derrick Moore, Jaishawn Barham and Giovanni El-Hadi are all skipping the game to prepare for the NFL Draft. Speaking to the media on Monday, interim head coach Biff Poggi didn’t think anyone else on the team would opt out of the game. However, his tune changed quite a bit just two days later, as he speculated on a Texas-based podcast called “The Stampede” that he may be down even more guys than that.

Poggi expects UM to have 'significantly different roster' for Citrus Bowl

Michigan interim head football coach Biff Poggi told local reporters on Monday there were only three opt-outs for the upcoming Citrus Bowl against Texas in Orlando, Florida. A day later, on a Texas-focused podcast, he said he would not be shocked if the Wolverines will have a depleted roster with at least two dozen out for the bowl game.

Poggi, formerly the associate head coach, was installed as interim head coach after Sherrone Moore was fired on Dec. 10 for having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Michigan is searching for a new head coach, and Poggi has interviewed for the position. Meanwhile, the university Regents have engaged a firm to investigate the entire athletic department as well as the football program.

Texas football: 5 things to know about Michigan ahead of Citrus Bowl clash

This year, Texas football will spend New Year's Eve in Orlando with the Michigan Wolverines.

Texas and Michigan will square off in the Citrus Bowlon Dec. 31 at Camping World Stadium. Just two years ago, the Longhorns and Wolverines each qualified for what was then a four-team College Football Playoff, which the Wolverines won. This season, though, UT and UM both went 9-3 and weren't included in the 12-team CFP field. Texas was listed 13th in the final CFP rankings. Michigan was 18th.
