Veteran catcher signs with Giants

The post Veteran catcher signs with Giants appeared first on ClutchPoints.

The San Francisco Giants are starting their campaign to improve the roster for 2026. San Francisco is signing veteran catcher Logan Porter, per USA Today. Porter has spent time with the Giants previously, but in a limited capacity.

“Catcher Logan Porter re-signs with San Francisco Giants and will receive an invite to their big league camp. He played in five games for the Giants last year,” reporter Bob Nightengale reported on X, formerly Twitter.

Porter posted just seven at-bats during the 2025 regular season. He posted one hit and one RBI. The catcher also hit at a .143 batting average.

SF Giants reportedly reunite with multi-positional catcher on minors pact

The SF Giants have made their first roster move of the offseason. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, they have re-signed multi-positional catcher Logan Porter to a minor league deal.

Nightengale notes that Porter will receive an invite to spring training. Along with Porter, the Giants' group of catchers currently consists of Patrick Bailey, Andrew Knizner, and Jesús Rodríguez. Adrián Sugastey and Drew Cavanaugh should serve as catching depth in the upper minors, and could even receive invites to spring training as well.

The Giants did a nice job of maintaining catching depth in the upper minors. The depth in that area of the roster tends to ebb and flow throughout the year.

San Francisco Giants Make First Free Agent Signing Of New Era

On Friday October 24, 2025, the San Francisco Giants bolstered their catching depth ahead of 2026, re-signing Logan Porter to a minor league contract.

Porter, 30, played in 5 games for the Giants this season. He recorded 1 hit in 7 at-bats, 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. He spent most of the season with the AAA Sacramento River Cats, hitting .212 with 6 home runs and 29 RBI in 73 games.

His contract comes with an invite to big league Spring Training in 2026.

Porter likely won’t be the splashiest hire of the new Tony Vitello era in San Francisco. But his signing is a sign that the Giants are wasting no time getting active in free agency now that they have their new manager in town.
