Buccaneers QB Teddy Bridgewater suspended for high school football season after giving impermissible benefits
Former Miami Northwestern High School football coach Teddy Bridgewater has been suspended for the rest of the 2025-26 school year for providing impermissible benefits to athletes, the Florida High School Athletic Association announced Friday. Bridgewater left the Northwestern staff on Aug. 4 to take a roster spot with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is currently the backup to Baker Mayfield.
The FHSAA also issued a reprimand to Northwestern and levied a $2,500 penalty against the school. All but $250 of that fine will be returned to the school, which handed down the suspension approved by the FHSAA, if it does not commit further violations.

The Florida High School Athletic Association announced the suspension on Sept. 12. Northwestern handed down the suspension, which was approved by the FHSAA.
Northwestern, which won the Class 3A state championship in 2024, was assessed a reprimand by the FHSAA and a $2,500 penalty, $2,250 of which will be returned to the school if no other violations.
Bridgewater, currently the backup quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, initially was suspended by Northwestern in mid-July after revealing in a social media post that he spent $700 a week on Uber rides for his players last season.

Report: Teddy Bridgewater suspended by Miami Northwestern for 2025 season
According to a report by USA Today’s Jon Santucci, former Miami Northwestern head coach Teddy Bridgewater has been suspended by the school for the 2025-26 school year. The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) reportedly approved the suspension.
In Santucci’s report, the Bulls were docked a $2,500 penalty fine by the FHSAA, of which $2,250 can be returned to Miami Northwestern if there are no other violations.
Bridgewater had informed Miami Northwestern players back in early August that he was pursuing a return to the NFL. The Bulls’ alum ended up signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is currently the team’s backup.
