USGS: Earthquake reported near Elgin
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – An earthquake was reported in part of the Midlands early Tuesday.
The United States Geological Survey confirmed a magnitude 2.2 quake happened nearly three miles east of Elgin just after 6:30 a.m.

Magnitude 2.2 Earthquake rattles South Carolina on Tuesday morning
While you may think quakes are a western US problem, some of the largest temblors in US history have happened in the East.
ELGIN, S.C. – A magnitude 2.2 earthquake, centered 19 miles northeast of Columbia, South Carolina, shook areas of the Palmetto State on Tuesday morning.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the tremors began around 6:33am.
People in South Carolina reported feeling the shaking in nearby areas like Lugoff, Blythwood, Dentsville and Elgin.

ELGIN, S.C. — For the first time this year, an earthquake has struck near the Elgin area.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 2.7 magnitude earthquake hit early Tuesday morning. The quake occurred in the same area that has seen numerous tremors over the past few years.
Around 6:30 a.m., residents in Elgin and nearby communities felt the tremor.
“We haven’t had them in a while. So, when we were having them like every other day you almost go, ‘Oh, that was an earthquake,’ and just go on about your business,” said Diane Welch. “And this one was like… was that an earthquake?”
