Ziaire Williams knows he will need to help rebound for the Lakers

One area that the Los Angeles Lakers hope to be significantly improved in this season compared to last is their rebounding. Last season’s roster ranked 27th in rebounds per game — 29th in offensive rebounds and 22nd in defensive — and dead last in box outs per game. Advanced metrics gave L.A. a more favorable view, but no one would argue that last season’s team was good at rebounding.

The Lakers brought in Walker Kessler and Kevon Looney — two of the league’s best rebounding bigs — to alleviate this issue, but also added players like Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle, who are strong rebounders for their positions due to their defensive activity. Williams spoke about rebounding and how it’s a point of emphasis for him and the Lakers to improve this season.

Walker Kessler says injury has made him hungrier to win every game this season

Kessler believes missing most of 2025-26 could make him a better basketball player

Through the first three seasons of Walker Kessler’s NBA career, he averaged 65 games played per year. Last season, however, a torn labrum in his left shoulder spoiled his campaign before November arrived and he only suited up for five games. After the lengthy layoff, he’s back and equipped with a newfound drive to help the Los Angeles Lakers win as many games as possible in 2026-27.

“I think what I missed most was just competing, quite frankly. Competing to win,” Kessler said following Tuesday’s loss to the Golden State Warriors. “And I think as far as making me a better basketball player, I just think it has made me long to go try to win every game and win every night. So in turn, that probably makes me a little better basketball player.”
