You are never wasting police time' -GMP issues spiking warning for students
Greater Manchester Police has issued advice on how to spot and report spiking incidents, reminding people that they will be taken seriously if they come forward with concerns.
The force said spiking involves giving someone drugs or alcohol without their knowledge or permission and can take a number of forms, including adding substances to drinks, food, cigarettes or e-cigarettes.
Police also warned of needle spiking, where drugs are injected into someone's body using a needle or injector pen.
GMP said giving someone stronger drinks than they have agreed to, such as serving double measures instead of singles, can also amount to spiking.
Predatory behaviour 'will be targeted' during Oxford Freshers' Week
A police operation will target predatory behaviour in Oxford during Freshers' Week.
Thames Valley Police will focus its efforts around university campuses and nearby nightlife areas as part of Project Vigilant.
The scheme, which uses both uniformed and plain-clothed officers, aims to prevent sexually predatory behaviour by patrolling areas around pubs, bars and nightclubs to identify individuals who may pose a risk.
Extra patrols will be provided in the vicinity of Oxford University, Oxford Brookes and, for Oxfordshire students moving out of county for university, Reading University and Buckinghamshire New University.
Detective inspector Laura Gregory, who leads Project Vigilant, said: "Freshers' Week should be an enjoyable experience for students, without fear of harassment, unwanted attention or sexual offending.
