Andy Green to stay on as Mets manager, signs 3-year contract
ARLINGTON, Texas — The Mets on Tuesday named Andy Green their full-time manager, removing his interim tag and signing him to a three-year contract.
“Andy has connected with and pushed our players to perform, despite the disappointment of the season,” Mets owners Steve and Alex Cohen said in a statement. “Over the last several months he has brought discipline, accountability and positivity to the clubhouse, attributes we were seeking in our next manager."
Green, 49, led the Mets to a 37-38 record as interim manager, after taking over from Carlos Mendoza in late June. The Mets are 31-28 since the All-Star break, entering Tuesday night's game against the Rangers.

The Mets announced that interim manager Andy Green will stick around as full-time manager and has been signed to a three-year deal. “Over the course of the season, it became evident that the next manager of the New York Mets was already in place,” said president of baseball operations David Stearns in the press release. “Andy has demonstrated strong leadership qualities and a unique ability to forge connections with our emerging core and distinguished veterans. I look forward to continuing our great partnership as we turn toward the 2027 season.”
It’s a surprising development, though not because of Green’s performance. To the contrary, all indications have been that Green has been doing a good job as interim skipper for the Mets, but his personal preference was to return to the front office at season’s end. It seems he has had a change of heart and will stick around after all.
