Kimberle Williams Crenshaw's new memoir is 'a love letter' to Canton

CANTON − As a child growing up in Canton, Kimberle Williams Crenshaw butted heads with more than few adults for speaking truth to power.

It was the genesis of her life as an academic and national expert on gender equity, race and civil rights.

She details the journey in her new autobiography, "Backtalker: An American Memoir."

"This is a love letter to my hometown; to the people who raised me, who saw me, who continue to support me and expect things from me," she said.

"Backtalker" recalls her life in a family of educators and civil rights activists. Her late parents, Walter C. and Marian Crenshaw, were Canton City Schools teachers. Her father also served as executive director of the Canton Area Housing Authority, a precursor of SMHA, and is the namesake of a middle school and city park.

Kimberle Crenshaw's 'Backtalker' book signing event location changed

CANTON − The location of Kimberle Crenshaw's book signing of her new memoir "Backtalker" has been changed.
