Ocasio-Cortez says she’ll vote against any military aid to Israel, including for Iron Dome system
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Tuesday she would vote against sending any military aid to Israel, including defensive supplies, a marked shift from a Democrat deemed a potential 2028 presidential candidate.
Ocasio-Cortez told members of the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America Tuesday that she would commit to voting no on any military aid spending for Israel, a spokesperson for the lawmaker told CNN.
Her remarks, first reported by City & State, were made at a private forum as members considered whether to endorse her re-election bid.
Her comments come at a time when the Democratic Party is taking on a more critical stance toward the Israeli government and pro-Israel lobbying groups that have spent millions against Democratic candidates who support conditioning aid to Israel.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s pivot reflects a changing party ahead of 2028.
Last summer, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D- N.Y., voted against an amendment to cut off aid for Israel’s missile defense. Her vote was a striking break with several progressives whom she often has voted alongside, including Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and enraged many on the pro-Palestinian left.
Afterward, she defended herself on social media by distinguishing between supporting Israel’s defensive military capabilities and its offensive military capabilities. But on Tuesday in a forum with members of the New York City Democratic Socialists of America, Ocasio-Cortez pledged to vote against all military aid to Israel, including defensive capabilities, according to a recording obtained by City & State.

On Tuesday night, City & State editor Peter Sterne broke the news that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who is widely seen as a standard-bearer of progressive politics and a potential 2028 presidential contender, pledged at a private New York City Democratic Socialists of America meeting to vote no on any funding for Israel military aid in Congress, including for so-called “defensive” weapons.
Ocasio-Cortez followed up on this publicly, tweeting that “The Israeli government is well able to fund the Iron Dome system” and “I will not support Congress sending more taxpayer dollars and military aid to a government that consistently ignores international law and U.S. law.”
