But I’m not ready for another coaching search
As I’m writing this on Wednesday morning, signs are pointing rather strongly at Will Wade leaving NC State for LSU, which is a possibility that has been simmering behind the scenes for a while, but didn’t seem to feel real until Tuesday.
Wade’s buyout, which is already low, drops to a paltry $3 million at the beginning of April, which is nothing for a big SEC school, not even a big SEC school that just spent a bundle on a football staff. The low buyout in Wade’s contract was obviously a mistake on NC State’s part but also beside the point if he’s that intent on getting back to LSU, and if he’s really leaving, then I don’t know how else you explain it other than that he just really wants to be there.
Will Wade will return to LSU as coach after one season at NC State, Tigers to part with Matt McMahon
NC State coach Will Wade is set to leave the Wolfpack after one season for a return to LSU, according to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein. The Tigers have been pursuing their former coach in recent days following NC State's NCAA Tournament loss in an effort to energize LSU by bringing back the last coach to lead the program to an NCAA Tournament appearance. LSU is expected to part with current coach Matt McMahon on Thursday.
Wade is set to board a flight for Baton Rouge Thursday afternoon and will soon be introduced as the Tigers' next coach, according to 247Sports. Wade reportedly met with NC State officials on Wednesday night to hear the Wolfpack's final contract enhancement offer.

Jim Gazzolo column: Schroyer leaves behind legacy that will be hard to match
Heath Schroyer loved being a big fish. Now he’s jumped into what is perhaps the biggest fish bowl in college sports.
He might sink, but Schroyer has always found a way to swim out of trouble.
He arrived in Lake Charles as a basketball coach with a vision, but almost left town before the ink on his McNeese State contract had dried. Schroyer went so far as to call his former boss and ask for his job back.
And now he’s off to Baton Rouge to serve as a senior athletic administrator at LSU, under former McNeese President Wade Rousse, who became president at LSU on Nov. 4, 2025.
