FBI investigating Steam games with hidden malware
Download any dubious games from Steam over the past few years? You very well could've downloaded malware onto your computer — and now FBI wants to know about it.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation's Seattle division is currently seeking out potential victims of games sold on Steam with hidden malware. The agency has set up a form that gamers can fill out here.
According to the agency, threat actors targeted Steam users between May 2024 and January 2026. The FBI has already identified a number of Steam games that turned out to have malware embedded: BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse/DashFPS, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenova.
FBI Investigating After Malware Found Lurking in Steam PC Games
The FBI is investigating the distribution of malware through several video games hosted on Steam, the popular PC gaming platform operated by Valve.
The agency said Friday it is seeking victims whose computers may have been infected after downloading games believed to contain malicious software.
“The FBI believes the threat actor primarily targeted users between the timeframe of May 2024 and January 2026,” the agency wrote.
The FBI’s investigation is targeting several PC games, including BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse, DashFPS, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenova.
Last summer, several games, including Chemia and PirateFi, were removed by Steam after they were discovered to include malware.

FBI launches investigation of Steam games suspected of crypto scams
The malware-infected games included everything from FPS titles to early access games
Over the last couple of years, Steam has repeatedly been infected with games discovered to contain malware. These were games that somehow could disrupt computer function or otherwise steal a user's personal information. Now, months later, the Federal Bureau of Investigation says that it suspects some of these Steam games were the product of a larger scheme.
The federal law enforcement and information agency has thus set up a web page dedicated entirely to the Steam situation. In it, a handful of games seemingly tied to crypto scams were cited as primary suspects. These include titles such as BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenova. When they were originally released, many of these illicit Trojan horses looked and played just like a normal Steam game would. The games also varied in genre, from FPS titles to platformers. In most cases, the malware was distributed via in-game patches that were later discovered to be suspicious. At least one early access title asked players to opt into a playtest before injecting dangerous software.
