Luka Modric Reveals Which Head Coach Made Cristiano Ronaldo Cry
Real Madrid fans were sad to see one of their most loyal servants leave the club this past summer. Luka Modric played for 13 seasons in the Spanish capital, becoming one of the greats and loved by the fanbase on and off the field.
The Croatian joined Italian side AC Milan, and despite turning 40 in September, he is still running the midfield for the I Rossoneri. During his time in Madrid, he played alongside some talented players. He was also managed by some incredible head coaches.
In a recent interview with Corriere della Sera, Modric spoke about his childhood and his footballing career. When discussing past coaches, he recalled the time one made Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably the greatest Real Madrid player, cry with his comments.
Modric: “I was sure that I would finish my career at Real Madrid”
Real Madrid legend Luka Modric talked to Il Corriere Della Sera and shared his thoughts about his recent move to AC Milan while recapping some moments of his illustrious career.
“I was a Milan fan because of my childhood idol: Zvonimir Boban, the Croatian captain who was about to achieve a feat in the 1998 France World Cup. I wasn’t even thirteen years old, and my father gave me a Milan tracksuit. Life always surprises you. Things happen that you never imagined possible. I was convinced I would finish my career at Real Madrid, but instead… But I have always thought: if I ever played for another team, it would have been Milan. I am here to win,” said the midfielder.

⭐ Legends rave about Serie A star, best signing of the year
Luka Modrić is currently showing once again in Italy that age is just a number. In the summer of 2025, the 38-year-old Croatian left Real Madrid after a solid 13 years. His contract with the Royals had not been extended beforehand.
Following that, Modrić took the leap into Serie A. Upon arriving at AC Milan, the 2018 World Cup runner-up immediately became a regular starter and key player.
Italian legend Luca Toni is therefore full of praise for Modrić. On the podcast “Cose Scomode,” the former Bayern star explained: “Modrić is the best signing of 2025 because he brought quality with him.”
With this, the midfielder joins a series of supposed veteran stars who are thriving in Serie A. “We have seen that great champions like him, even at 38 or 39 years old, can still play in Italy with a cigarette in their mouth,” said Toni. “He could have gone to the United Arab Emirates and earned a fortune, but instead he chose the challenge.”
