UConn phenom Mullins makes long-awaited debut
NEW YORK — Touted freshman guard Braylon Mullins played 10 minutes in his debut for No. 5 UConn on Friday in its 74-61 win over No. 13 Illinois after missing more than a month because of an ankle injury.
Limited to about 15 minutes, Mullins checked in for the first time with about 12 minutes left in the first half. His only basket in five attempts was a jumper that gave the Huskies a 63-42 lead with 11:27 left and got a loud ovation from the UConn fans in the crowd.
"He's going to continue to get better," UConn forward Alex Karaban said about Mullins. "He's going to continue to grow, and he's getting way more comfortable there. What he does in practice, he kills in practice, he's going to get more comfortable there."

Braylon Mullins returned to the court ahead of schedule and made his collegiate debut Friday afternoon.
The 2025 Indiana Mr. Basketball out of Greenfield-Central missed the first four weeks of the UConn basketball season due to an ankle injury. His original timeline was to return around Dec. 5, but he debuted in the Huskies' 74-61 win over Illinois at Madison Square Garden.
Mullins played three minutes in the first half, but had extended run in the second half. He finished with two points, two rebounds and committed two fouls in 10 minutes.
His first collegiate points came on a jumper with 11:27 left in regulation, part of a 7-0 UConn run that expanded its lead to 21 before Illinois tightened the game with a run of its own. Mullins shot-faked off a catch behind the 3-point line, took two dribbles into a pull-up jumper.
