“Clark Lea embodies what is possible at Vanderbilt, and I am proud to continue this journey with him leading our football program,” Lee said. “From the very beginning of Vandy United, we unapologetically set out to build a model to sustain excellence in athletics and today simply reaffirms our commitment. Vanderbilt is giving a contract extension and raise to football coach Clark Lea, the school announced Friday morning, locking up the coach who has taken the Commodores to historic heights in his fifth season.
The contract extension is for six years, a source briefed on the deal said. Additional terms of the contract were not disclosed by Vanderbilt, which is a private university, though USA Today reported Lea was paid about $3.7 million in 2023, including bonuses. That figure would rank Lea last among the SEC’s 16 football coaches — which reaches as high as Georgia’s Kirby Smart at $13.3 million and in 2025 included eight coaches making $9 million or more.
