Police investigate possible shooting at Oakland's Laney College

OAKLAND, Calif. – A shooting Thursday at Laney College in Oakland left one person wounded, officials said.

The Oakland Fire Department confirmed that a 58-year-old man was shot on campus and transported to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

Oakland police said the shooting occurred around noon in the 900 block of Fallon Street. Officers arrived to find the victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

It's unclear how the victim, if at all is associated with the campus.

A possible shooting was reported Thursday on the campus of Laney College in Oakland, prompting a lockdown.

Authorities said the investigation remains active, and no information about a possible suspect or motive has been released.

A shooting at Oakland's Laney College on Thursday injured at least one person and prompted a lockdown of the campus, authorities said.

The Oakland Police Department said the shooting happened just before noon and that medics transported a shooting victim to the hospital. A spokesman for the Oakland Fire Department said the victim was a 58-year-old man; his condition was not immediately known.

The Peralta Community College District said the shooting happened at the Laney Fieldhouse, which is the sports complex on the east side of the campus. The district sent out an emergency alert to students and employees at Laney and to the adjacent Peralta district offices.
