Sam Pittman buyout, contract details as Arkansas football coach

Arkansas coach Sam Pittman entered the 2025 season on a scorching-hot seat after a few listless years leading the program. So far, the sixth-year Razorbacks boss hasn't done much to help his case.

The Hogs started a crucial campaign off on the right foot with a pair of easy wins against overmatched opponents in Arkansas A&M and Arkansas State, but the Razorbacks are now in the midst of a two-game losing streak that may extend after Week 5 as they struggle against No. 22 Notre Dame.

Pittman is just under .500 as Arkansas' coach with a 32-33 mark during his time in Fayetteville. Arkansas has lost three of its first five games once since 2020, and that was when it finished with a 4-8 record in 2023.

Bobby Petrino deemed logical interim Arkansas Razorbacks football coach, ‘not undercutting’ Sam Pittman

Arkansas Razorbacks football coach Sam Pittman is on a scorching hot seat following three notable firings in the past week. The Oklahoma State Cowboys fired Mike Gundy on Tuesday, two days after the Virginia Tech Hokies fired Brent Pry and the UCLA Bruins fired DeShaun Foster.

What’s not helping Pittman is that the Hogs have an interim head football coach in mind: Bobby Petrino.

The offensive guru was deemed by CBS Sports’ Brandon Marcello the “logical” interim replacement for Pittman if he was fired. Marcello made sure to point out that Petrino is “not undercutting” Pittman.

Sam Pittman takes subtle shot at Notre Dame defense ahead of Arkansas matchup

Notre Dame football fans who are already annoyed with defensive coordinator Chris Ash are only going to be more annoyed by Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman's recent comments regarding the Irish defense.

Ash has been under fire since the season kicked off after taking over a unit that was turned into a weapon by former DC Al Golden. That defense has mostly been a bump in the road at the absolute best in the Golden Domers' opponents' offensive game plan. A unit that instilled fear in opponents last year is now one where head coaches like Pittman talk about how they think they can beat them.
