Detroit Tigers vs Atlanta Braves: Time, channel and pitchers for critical home series

The Detroit Tigers haven't been playing so well as of late, and they've seen their lead in the American League Central drop to 3½ games as a result.

But the Tigers still have nine more regular-season games to cement their place atop the division, starting with a three-game weekend home series against the Atlanta Braves from Friday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 21.

It's sure to be a tough test, with the Braves entering the 2025 season as a World Series favorite with a host of top-tier talent up and down the roster. However, Atlanta (70-83) has had an underwhelming season, currently sitting in fourth place in the National League East and 21 games behind the division-leading Philadelphia Phillies.

As playoff race heats up, what to know about critical Detroit Tigers series vs. Braves

DETROIT – After a tough series in Cleveland, the Tigers’ magic number remains at 7, and Cleveland has cut their deficit down to only 3.5 games back in the AL central. The Atlanta series is a must-win for Detroit. Here is a look ahead at the upcoming series with the Braves.

The Braves have won five in a row of their last ten games, most recently sweeping the Washington Nationals in a four-game series. They outscored the struggling Nationals 31-10.

Charlie Morton struggled with command in his last start against the Marlins, throwing 76 pitches and only 42 for strikes. He walked four in four innings and surrendered two earned runs. The Tigers could use a couple more innings out of Morton, and more strikes.

The Tigers are looking for some good vibes with just over a week left in the regular season. Though they had such a strong first half of the 2025 campaign, their massive lead at the top of the American League Central is down to just a few games.

After dropping two of three to the Miami Marlins in the second part of the team’s latest road trip, Detroit was swept, at home, against the Cleveland Guardians, the team currently chasing the Tigers for first place.
