Panthers release North Carolina native as part of roster rebuild
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – The Panthers reportedly released a North Carolina native on Tuesday after he played a key role on their defense over the past two seasons.
Defensive tackle Shy Tuttle was cut as Carolina worked to reach the 53-man roster limit by the deadline at 4 p.m. on Aug. 26.
Tuttle, who signed with the Panthers in 2023, is from Winston-Salem and played at North Davidson High School before he went on to play collegiately at the University of Tennessee.
The now 29-year-old defensive lineman started 32 games for Carolina across the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He recorded 89 tackles in those games but only half a sack and one tackle for loss. Tuttle spent the previous four years with the New Orleans Saints, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2019.

Veteran defensive tackle Shy Tuttle, a former Tennessee Vols football player, will sign a one-year contract with the Tennessee Titans, ESPN reported on Aug. 26.
Tuttle, 29, was released by the Carolina Panthers on roster cutdown day after 32 starts over two seasons with the team. Before that, Tuttle spent four seasons in New Orleans where he initially made the final roster in 2019 as an undrafted free agent.
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive lineman adds another experienced depth option for the Titans up front behind starters Jeffery Simmons and T'Vondre Sweat along with veteran backups Sebastian Joseph-Day and James Lynch.
Tennessee's roster will continue to churn between now and the Week 1 game at the Denver Broncos on Sept. 7, including the first waiver wire claim cycle post-cutdown on Aug. 27 in which the Titans own the top spot.
