Wilmington, NC Weather: Coastal Flood Advisory in Effect from 4–8 PM Monday Along Cape Fear River
Wilmington, N.C. – Evening commuters in downtown Wilmington may face minor flooding today as a coastal flood advisory remains in effect from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. along the Cape Fear River.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, water levels could rise up to one half foot above ground in low-lying areas, especially near shorelines and tidal waterways. Portions of Battleship Road, USS North Carolina Road, and Water Street are prone to minor inundation during the evening high tide cycle.
The advisory covers areas along the lower Cape Fear River, with downtown Wilmington expected to see the most visible impacts. Motorists are urged not to drive around barricades or through standing water, as even shallow flooding can be dangerous. Travel delays are possible as some roads may temporarily close.
Flood warning issued for Lumber River
LUMBERTON — The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Lumber River near Lumberton.
The warning will be in effect from Monday evening through Friday morning.
As of 8:35 p.m. Monday evening, the Lumber River was at 12.6 feet in Lumberton. Flood stage is considered to be 13.0 feet; the river is forecast to rise above flood stage early Tuesday to a crest of 13.7 feet Tuesday evening.
It is then forecast to fall below flood stage Thursday afternoon.
At 13.0 feet, low land flooding will occur along the river, the warning stated. Floodwaters may affect some residential property as water backs up into drainage ditches in the city, the NWS said.
