What to know about boil water advisory issued for parts of Oakland County
OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A boil water advisory has been issued for parts of Oakland County on Thursday morning following a water main break.
The water main break happened on 14 Mile Road, just west of M-5, in the city of Novi on Sept. 25, 2025.
Novi city officials said the process to restore the water main could take several hours.
Boil water advisories were issued as a precautionary measure following a loss of pressure from the water main break, Oakland County officials said.

Novi water main break prompts several school closures, flooding
A water main break on Thursday in Novi has prompted several nearby schools to close.
It also prompted the area's regional water authority to issue a boil water alert for three municipalities near the break.
Novi city officials said at about 7:20 a.m. that the Oakland County community was experiencing a loss in water pressure due to a main break on 14 Mile Road west of M-5.
Less than an hour later, the city said crews were working to fix the problem and the break was in a 42-inch transmission main owned and operated by Great Lakes Water Authority. Officials said they expected the repairs to take several hours before service was restored.

Novi under boil water advisory after water main break
NOVI – The city is under a boil water advisory after a water main broke on Sept. 25.
Much of Novi, which has about 67,000 residents, lost water pressure after the Great Lakes Water Authority experienced a break in a 42-inch transmission main line on 14 Mile Road, just west of M-5, city officials said in a statement.
Residents of Novi, as well as impacted communities including Wixom, Commerce Township and Walled Lake, are asked to limit non-essential water use and temporarily refrain from watering lawns.
As of 2:15 p.m., city officials said GLWA crews had successfully shut four of the seven valves that needed to be closed.
