Major F1 TV shake-up planned following Sky takeover
Formula 1 television coverage in Germany is set for major changes in 2027 following RTL's takeover of Sky.
The two broadcasters are planning to combine their F1 production operations in a move designed to reduce costs and eliminate duplicated coverage.
RTL chief executive Stephan Schmitter has confirmed that the current arrangement, which sees RTL and Sky use separate production teams to cover the same races, will change next season.

RTL Group confirms EUR 725 million profit target: RTL Group stock sits 20.77 percent below its high
RTL Group (ISIN LU0061462528) confirmed a EUR 725 million adjusted profit target for 2026 on August 11, 2026, while its stock stood 20.77 percent below its 52-week high of EUR 39.00. The target and the first-half figures were presented in the Yahoo Finance transcript.
RTL Group's revenue rose 3.9 percent to EUR 2.9 billion in the first half of 2026, while adjusted EBITA increased from EUR 160 million to EUR 239 million. The corresponding margin moved from 5.8 percent to 8.3 percent, according to Yahoo Finance.
The company expects streaming to contribute EUR 100 million to adjusted EBITA in 2026. That target gives investors a clearer measure of the transformation than group revenue alone, because streaming profitability is rising while linear television advertising remains under pressure.

RTL targets EUR 250 million savings: RTL Group stock sits 20.82 percent below its high
RTL Group (ISIN LU0061462528) targeted EUR 250 million in annual savings within three years as it combined German Formula 1 production with Sky, according to Sector on October 14, 2026. At EUR 30.88, RTL stock stood 20.82 percent below its EUR 39.00 52-week high as of October 22, 2026.
The merger replaces separate RTL and Sky production teams for German Formula 1 coverage in 2027. The combined group also plans to use one production operation for selected Bundesliga programming, reducing duplicated content and technology costs, Sector reported.
RTL said the savings program included 500 job reductions by the end of 2027, with content costs, duplicate contracts and support functions also contributing to the target. The restructuring follows RTL's acquisition of Sky Deutschland, which closed on June 1, 2026.
