The recent release of a serial rapist who drugged young women in college bars during the late 1990s is garnering outrage in the San Gabriel Valley community where the man, who is an heir to a cosmetics fortune, is reportedly residing.
Andrew Stuart Luster, the great-grandson of Max Factor, was convicted in 2003 on 86 felony counts of poisoning, rape, sodomy and oral copulation of unconscious victims. A jury viewed video he made of himself engaging in sexual acts with women rendered unconscious by GHB, the so-called date-rape drug.
Glendora mayor says he's ‘outraged' after serial rapist and Max Factor heir released on parole
The State of California’s decision not to consider the rape of an intoxicated or unconscious person a violent crime up until last year led to the early release of convicted serial rapist, Andrew Luster. Eric Leonard reports for NBC4 Investigates on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026.
The mayor of Glendora is speaking out after Andrew Luster, an heir to the Max Factor cosmetics fortune who was convicted in 2003 on 86 counts of drugging and raping three women, was released to parole supervision last week.
"The City of Glendora is beyond disappointed. We are outraged," Mayor David Fredendall said in a statement Friday.
Fredendall said Luster, 62, was released from state prison after serving approximately 20 years and is now reportedly living in the community. NBC Los Angeles has not verified where exactly Luster is living.
