Quote Of The Day By Robin Williams: 'Am I The World's Greatest Dad? Not At All, I'm A Work-In-Progress, But…'

"O Captain! My Captain!" It's still hard to believe that Robin Williams passed away 12 years ago. The actor displayed his razor-sharp humor in films like "Mrs. Doubtfire" and provided words of wisdom via his characters in "Dead Poets Society" and "Good Will Hunting." At the same time that the comedian entertained audiences with his talent and wit, he also battled depression and addiction and was open about his continued efforts towards healing.

Williams would've turned 75 this year, and although his presence onscreen is missed, his legacy lives on through his extensive body of work. The actor studied at Juilliard before dropping out and pursuing comedy full-time, performing stand-up shows at late-night comedy clubs in the mid-'70s.

Robin Williams Reflected on Fatherhood and Addiction Recovery

Robin Williams spoke candidly about the challenges of parenting and personal growth during a 2009 appearance on the Today Show, using his experiences as a father of three to explain why he never considered himself a perfect parent. The actor's reflections, shared while promoting his comedy World's Greatest Dad, also highlighted his efforts to maintain his recovery from addiction and remain present in his children's lives.

Williams, who would have turned 75 in 2026, built a celebrated career spanning television, stand-up comedy, and film. His performances included Mork in Happy Days and Mork & Mindy, the Genie in Aladdin, and therapist Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting, for which he won an Academy Award.

John Goodman explains why Robin Williams had to ‘remain to himself’ when they worked together

The 10 Cloverfield Lane star said that Williams had to "remain to himself" on set.

Goodman described Williams as a "wonderful man" and reflected on how his techniques changed comedy acting.

John Goodman is reflecting on his time working with Robin Williams.

The Roseanne star played a small role in The Survivors, a 1983 comedy headlined by the Good Will Hunting actor and Walter Matthau. Goodman explained that he didn't interact with Williams much during their time on set together.

"I was one of a bunch of day players. I had a couple of lines," he said during a conversation with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation on Oct. 5. "But it felt like he had to remain to himself because he was kind of getting bugged by people."
