NWS Warns of Dangerous Surf Along Southern California Coast on Oct. 18

Beachgoers along Orange County and San Diego County faced hazardous ocean conditions on Oct. 18 as the National Weather Service warned of powerful waves, dangerous rip currents and possible coastal erosion. The latest advisory projected surf of 3 to 6 feet through Tuesday morning, with south-facing beaches, particularly around Huntington Beach, facing additional risks from tidal overflow.

The National Weather Service's San Diego office warned that breaking waves could endanger swimmers, surfers and people standing near the shoreline. Minor beach erosion and water overflowing onto coastal areas were also possible as elevated surf persisted.

In its beach hazards statement, the agency described the expected conditions and their duration.
