Packers’ Blockbuster Trade Pitch Replaces Josh Jacobs With $46 Million Pro Bowl RB
The Green Bay Packers may not reunite with running back Josh Jacobs anytime soon given the most recent developments in his ongoing absence from NFL eligibility, which may call for yet another move at the position — and a bigger swing this time than a trade for Kaleb Johnson involving a sixth-round pick or signing Pierre Strong Jr. out of free agency.
Saquon Barkley is perhaps the most talented running back who could end up on the market after the Philadelphia Eagles lost one starting offensive lineman to retirement before losing another to a trade with the Baltimore Ravens — all last week, before Philly went on to lose its third game of the season in five tries, this one to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London in heartbreaking fashion.
Packers Weigh Running Back Trades as Jacobs Case Drags On
Green Bay's backfield uncertainty has intensified trade speculation after Josh Jacobs remained on the Commissioner's Exempt List, leaving the Packers with the NFL's weakest rushing output through five games and limited clarity before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
According to Heavy and Lombardi Ave, Green Bay is averaging 60.4 rushing yards per game, the lowest mark in the league. The Packers also got only 218 combined rushing yards from Kaleb Johnson and MarShawn Lloyd on 67 carries through Week 5, according to Lombardi Ave.
As reported by Heavy, the delay in Jacobs' case grew after ESPN's Rob Demovsky said certain records could be released with redactions, but an appeal blocked their release for now. Jacobs pleaded no contest on Sept. 10 to two misdemeanor charges tied to a May domestic incident, one for battery and one for criminal damage to property.
