BBC asks Florida court to authorize subpoenas for Trump family members in defamation suit
London — The BBC has asked a Florida court to subpoena members of President Trump's family as part of the British public broadcaster's legal defense against Mr. Trump's $10 billion defamation lawsuit, according to a court filing released Friday.
The BBC's legal team asked the U.S District Court in the Southern District of Florida for "authorization to serve third parties Donald Trump, Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner," with subpoenas that would compel the three to provide testimony and documentation regarding events on Jan. 6, 2021, during the assault on the U.S. Capitol by the president's supporters.
"The Third Parties have personal knowledge and likely have possession, custody, or control of records relevant to multiple elements of Plaintiff's claims against the BBC," the network's legal team argued in the court filing.

BBC seeks to subpoena family members in Panorama lawsuit
The BBC has sought to subpoena members of Donald Trump's family for documents and testimony in the US president's $10bn (£7.4bn) defamation lawsuit against the broadcaster.
Court filings show that representatives for the BBC's legal team attempted in May to serve subpoenas to the president's son Donald Trump Jr, his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The president is suing the BBC over an episode of Panorama that edited together two different sections of a speech he gave before the 2021 Capitol riots.
The BBC has previously apologised for the edit, but denied it was grounds for defamation.
In a statement to the BBC, a spokesman for Trump's legal team said the BBC had "intentionally defamed" the president, and with its subpoena request was now "seeking to harass him, his family, and supporters by abusing the deposition process".
