Georgia school shooter Colt Gray sentenced to life in prison without parole

Colt Gray, the Georgia teen who fatally shot two teachers and two students and wounded nine others at Apalachee High School in September 2024, was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

“Your crimes do reflect permanent incorrigibility and I will sentence you to life without parole for each of the malice murders you committed,” Judge Nicholas Primm said in announcing the sentence.

Colt, 16, did not appear to react to the sentence. He declined to speak to the court before the decision.

The families of the shooting victims and survivors gasped and audibly cried at the announcement in court.

Teen sentenced to life without parole for deadly mass shooting at his high school

A teenage boy who carried out a mass shooting at his Georgia high school, killing two students and two teachers, was sentenced to life without parole, with the judge calling his actions "deliberate, contemplated evil."

Colt Gray, 16, faced a sentence of life with or without parole after pleading guilty to all 55 counts against him, including murder and aggravated assault.

Judge Nicholas Primm handed down the sentence on Tuesday in Barrow County after taking over an hour to deliberate following closing arguments, during which prosecutors said the teen idolized other mass shooters and wanted infamy.

"You wrote, 'I want to make history. I want people to remember the pain I caused,' and there you succeeded," Primm said. "The pain that you visited upon this community is unlikely to disappear in my lifetime."

Apalachee High School shooter Colt Gray sentenced to life without parole

WINDER, Ga. — The teenager who idolized mass murderers and used the assault-style rifle he got for Christmas to kill two students and two teachers at his Georgia high school will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Colt Gray, 16, was sentenced Tuesday to life without parole for the Sept. 4, 2024, shooting at Apalachee High School that also left another teacher and eight more students wounded, seven of them hit by gunfire.

Barrow County Superior Court Judge Nicholas Primm handed down the sentence days after Gray pleaded guilty to all 55 counts against him, including murder.

“You do not seem to be tormented by what you did, you seem to relish following in the footsteps of the murderers you idolize,” Primm told Gray. “You aren’t racked with guilt. You’re proud of yourself.”
