Professional box lacrosse team the Philadelphia Wings to cease operations
This season will be the last for Philadelphia’s professional box lacrosse team. On Monday, March 30, the Philadelphia Wings announced that they will cease operations following the end of the 2025-2026 season.
“This was not an easy conclusion to reach, and it is one we considered with great care,” a team spokesperson wrote. “Since the Wings’ re-establishment in 2017 and return to the turf in 2018, the team has proudly carried on Philadelphia’s rich lacrosse tradition at the highest level.”
The Wings were one of the four original teams in the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League, a professional box lacrosse league that launched in 1987. The league was renamed the Major Indoor Lacrosse League in 1989 and then the National Lacrosse League (NLL) in 1998. The team relocated to Uncasville, Connecticut, in 2014 and was renamed the New England Black Wolves.

Our actions weren’t good here tonight. We weren’t committed to doing what we needed to do to be successful and there’s the result.”
