CIA revises reports on white supremacy, anti-LGBTQ+ attacks and contraception
As the Trump administration pursues its illiberal agenda, the Central Intelligence Agency is trying to hide and discredit reports on white supremacy and more.
The CIA is yet again spurning intelligence that doesn’t align with Donald Trump’s bigoted agenda.
Late last week, the Central Intelligence Agency announced that it was retracting or making “substantive” revisions to 19 reports. The agency’s news release names only three of the reports — analyses highlighting threats from white supremacy, anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry and poor global access to contraceptives, and includes links to redacted versions.
Without providing any evidence, the news release calls the reports “biased” and gives credit to the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board — a group that is led by Trump ally Devin Nunes and includes people like far-right podcast host Katie Miller, the wife of Trump’s policy director.
CIA retracts and revises reports for 'bias' after review by Trump-appointed board
CIA Director John Ratcliffe said Friday that he was directing the agency to retract or substantively edit 19 intelligence reports that President Donald Trump’s political appointees said failed to meet “tradecraft standards” or contained political bias.
Ratcliffe, a Trump appointee, said the reports “fall short of the high standards of impartiality that CIA must uphold and do not reflect the expertise for which our analysts are renowned,” adding that “there is absolutely no room for bias in our work.”
The agency did not identify all 19 reports, but listed three that were released during the administrations of Trump’s recent Democratic predecessors.
