Don't be surprised if … Collin Gillespie, Austin Reaves continue hot scoring runs
Each week in the NBA is its own story — full of surprises, both positive and negative — and fantasy football managers must decide what to believe and what not to believe moving forward. Perhaps we can help. If any of these thoughts come true … don't be surprised!
OK, so perhaps "top 100" doesn't seem like much, but you weren't thinking about Gillespie three or four weeks ago. Perhaps you didn't know he was in the league. The Villanova product who was part of a national championship team in 2018 went undrafted in 2022, and he made little impact for the 2023-24 Denver Nuggets. He started nine games late last season for the Suns, showing promise as a 3-point shooter, distributor and, perhaps most surprisingly, in racking up steals for a team playing its way out of a playoff spot.
Collin Gillespie may be playing his way directly off the Suns
The Phoenix Suns signed Collin Gillespie to a one-year, $2.3 million deal in July. The next contract he signs will be worth significantly more than that. It's a good thing for the Suns that they retained Gillespie on a steal of a deal; it also means that he could price himself out of the team's range, a concern that ESPN's Tim Bontemps touched on during Wednesday's episode of "Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective" podcast.
Bontemps said, "Collin Gillespie has been an unbelievable story, shooting 44 percent from three. He had eight threes in that game last night. He has turned himself into a starting point guard. He's going to be an interesting guy to see how much money he gets as a free agent next summer."

Who is this guy?: Austin Butler wasn’t really familiar with Collin Gillespie’s game
Austin Butler, one of the biggest young stars in Hollywood, had a quizzical look on his face as he watched Collin Gillespie dice up the Los Angeles Lakers courtside in a 125-108 Phoenix Suns win on Monday night.
Gillespie practically couldn’t miss for most of the game on his way to a career-most 28 points and eight made 3s.
He was a two-way player last season, so one can cut Butler some slack for not being too familiar with Gillespie’s ability.
Other than sliding perfectly into the famous Shaq quote that was born in 2021 with former Houston Rocket Christian Wood as the casualty, Butler’s priceless reaction caught on Peacock’s exclusive broadcast sets up to be a ripe meme template.
