New York Rangers should re-sign Tye Kartye to a long term deal
Tye Kartye is on one of the best bargain contracts in the NHL right now, per PuckPedia. His 4-7-11 in 16 games with the Rangers puts him at around $114,000 per point, third lowest in the entire NHL. Naturally as he continues to rack up points, that number will get lower and lower. His $1.25 million contract while playing second line and PP2 minutes with JT Miller has benefited him, and at this point it’s pretty clear the New York Rangers should re-sign Tye Kartye to a long term deal. At just 25 years old, Kartye will be an RFA eligible for arbitration, which at least means he’s at less risk of an offer sheet.
Tye Kartye Has Earned New Opportunity With NY Rangers
The New York Rangers have spent nearly a week getting to reset and regroup between scheduled games.
In their last time on the ice, the Rangers lost to the Los Angeles Kings, 6-3. A lot of attention was put on the goalie situation, with James Reimer in a tough spot. He made the start but lasted one period before being pulled in favor of Dylan Garand.
That has been a topic of discussion, along with the defensive structure, over the last few days, with the team being off since Oct. 26. New York is getting back on the ice on Nov. 1, and they will assuredly look different with head coach Mike Sullivan looking to find more success defensively.

Rangers’ Tye Kartye Has Become a Steal
During a disappointing 2025-26 season, the Rangers made a smart move, claiming winger Tye Kartye off waivers from the Seattle Kraken. The 25-year-old, who is in the final season of a two-season, $2.5 million contract, excelled in a bottom-six role last season. He has built on that and gotten off to an excellent start this season.
Kartye went undrafted but broke into the NHL with the Kraken in 2023-24 and finished with 11 goals and nine assists in 77 games. He carved out a role as a steady, physical bottom-six forward. He had six goals and seven assists in 63 games in 2024-25, and had three goals and five assists in 40 games last season, but was waived in February.
