Lionsgate Inks Deal With Meta to Bring New ‘Hunger Games’ Movie to VR Glasses
The studio is partnering to bring its latest franchise pic in 3D to Mark Zuckerberg's lightweight VR product after a theatrical release kicking off Nov. 20.
Lionsgate and Meta have unveiled a deal to bring a 3D-converted The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping to Mark Zuckerberg’s VR glasses after a theatrical run.
The 3D conversion by DNEG, the Oscar-winning visual effects and animation studio, has already been done ahead of the Sunrise on the Reaping’s theatrical release date on Nov. 20. Meta partnered on the 3D conversion so the movie could eventually play on its VR glasses, distinct from its heavier VR headset, when they become available to consumers in spring 2027.

Here’s an intriguing first-of-its-kind Hollywood partnership for Meta: The Mark Zuckerberg-led tech giant is teaming with Lionsgate to covert their anticipated Thanksgiving blockbuster The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping in 3D for its theatrical release.
But there’s more. The Francis Lawrence-directed prequel will play on Meta VR glasses in 3D following the pic’s play in cinemas.
Additional Lionsgate feature titles for Meta VR Glasses and their availability will be announced at a later date.
