Basin-wide Frontier internet outage blamed on vandals cutting cables

A major outage for customers of Frontier Internet in the Morongo Basin is being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The outage, which was first reported on Friday morning (October 30), has left thousands of local customers and businesses without internet for the last four days.

A spokesperson for the Verizon Group which owns Frontier said that “vandals cut multiple fiber cables causing service interruptions for customers across the Morongo Basin.” They said that they were working with law enforcement as part of the investigation, and are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the “arrest and conviction of individuals involved in vandalism that have impacted critical wireless and wireline communications service.”
