Miami-Dade officials drop charge of battery by strangulation against rapper due to ‘insufficient evidence’
Florida prosecutors on Thursday dropped a felony charge against rapper Rick Ross nearly a month after he was arrested in Miami Beach when a woman he was living with told police he hit her, court records said.
The Miami-Dade state attorney’s office filed paperwork on Thursday to drop a felony charge of battery by strangulation because of “insufficient evidence”. Ross, whose legal name is William Roberts II, still faces a misdemeanor charge of battery domestic violence.
Ross, 50, has pleaded not guilty to all charges, and his attorney said on Friday that his client would continue to defend himself against the allegations.
Rick Ross Faces Arraignment After Domestic Violence Allegations Lead to New Misdemeanor Charge
Rapper Rick Ross is heading back to court in Miami as he faces a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident at his Florida home.
The 50-year-old music mogul, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, is scheduled to be arraigned Friday, October 30, according to NBC 6 South Florida. The latest court development comes nearly a month after Ross surrendered to Miami Beach police following allegations of an altercation with his then-girlfriend.
However, the case has taken a significant turn. Prosecutors have dropped the felony battery by strangulation charge that Ross initially faced. The state is now pursuing a single misdemeanor count of battery/domestic violence, according to court information reported by NBC 6.
