Apple responds to user reports of broken iPhone Duo screens on new foldable phone
Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, hit store shelves on Friday to considerable lines and long wait times for preorders.
But some customers who were lucky enough to get the $1,999-and-up phone on its first weekend have been reporting a pretty big problem: The inner screen of the phone can break, showing horizontal bright lines emanating from the phone's hinge.
Apple on Monday said that it was aware of the issue, which it said affected a "small number" of phones, and that it would replace the devices under its AppleCare warranty.
"We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units," an Apple representative told CNBC. "If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement."
Apple's new foldable iPhone Duo faces ‘Crackgate' controversy amid screen defect reports
The latest star in the Apple phone universe may be losing a little shine.
Growing reports indicate that the iPhone Duo, the company's new foldable phone, is not living up to expectations — specifically, some units are developing cracks where they should not.
Apple says it will make good on what some online posters are calling "Crackgate." While most people interviewed report that their iPhone Duos are working just fine and they are happy with the new product, at least a handful of users say the phones, which start at $2,000, are not ready for prime time.
After lining up to get Apple's first foldable phone, longtime Apple fan Toli Marchuk said he noticed something wrong with his Duo.
