Donald Trump issued a swift rebuke against Mike DeWine, Ohioâs Republican governor, who on Thursday said gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy was âwrongâ to release an ad critical of his Democratic rival Amy Acton that featured her estranged mother.
DeWine had implored Ramaswamy to take the ad down, but hours later, Trump urged Ramaswamy to keep airing it and accused the Republican governor of disloyalty.
Acton, who has led the Republican nominee Ramaswamy in recent polls of the governorâs race, has said she has not seen her mother Donna Arthur for decades, after her mother married a man who sexually abused Acton when she was 12 years old and stayed with him even after police stepped in.

Acton has previously said she hasnât seen her mother since she was 12 years old, when her mother lost custody of her children and the man she married was indicted for allegedly sexually abusing Acton.

'This is despicable': Amy Acton responds to Ohio attack ad featuring her estranged mother
Amy Acton, the Democratic candidate for governor of the US state of Ohio, has called an attack ad against her that features her estranged mother "despicable".
Acton commented on the campaign ad from her Republican opponent, Vivek Ramaswamy, on Wednesday, saying: "This is despicable, what he's done."
In the ad, Acton's mother, Donna Arthur, says Acton "lied her entire life". But it does not mention that Arthur's husband was charged with raping Acton when she was a child and that Acton and her brother were then removed from Arthur's custody.
The ad set off a storm of criticism from members of both parties. On Thursday, US President Donald Trump sought to defend it and Ramaswamy on social media.
