‘Lioness’ Season 3 Closes With 9.7 Million Viewers in Seven Days, a Series High and the No. 5 Paramount+ Finale Ever

“Lioness” showed strong audience growth throughout its third season and ended on a high note: The finale reached 9.7 million viewers in its first seven days of availability.

That total marks not only the most-watched episode in the series’ history, but the No. 5 most-watched finale of all time compared to other Paramount+ originals. Additionally, the series saw an average of 8.5 million viewers per week throughout Season 3, which ran from Aug. 2 to Sept. 20, showing a 62% increase from Season 2’s weekly average in 2024. Each week of Season 3 brought in more viewers than the week before it.

“Lioness” also performed well compared to streaming programming on other networks, making it onto Nielsen and Luminate’s top 10 charts eight weeks in a row. Per Nielsen, the series achieved its first-ever billion-minute total during finale week, and Season 3 reached a cumulative 3.9 billion minutes watched during its eight-week run, up 62% from Season 2. Catch-up viewing was also strong, with Seasons 1 and 2 reaching a combined 2.5 million minutes watched in the same window.

Taylor Sheridan’s 3-Part Spy Thriller Sets All-Time Paramount+ Record With New Release

Taylor Sheridan's spy thriller has set an all-time Paramount+ record with its new release.

Best known as the creator of Yellowstone (2018–2024) and its prequels 1883 (2021–2022) and 1923 (2022–2025), Sheridan has since ventured beyond the ranch and created several series for Paramount+, including the crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown (2021–), the crime drama Tulsa King (2022–), and the oil drama Landman (2024–). Now, one of his Paramount+ series has set a streaming record with its new release.

According to Variety, the Lioness season 3 finale received 9.7 million viewers during its first seven days, the most-watched episode in the show's history and the fifth most-watched finale of all time among Paramount+ original series. Season 3 averaged an impressive 8.5 million viewers per week, a 62% jump over the weekly average for season 2, with the latest episodes attracting a larger audience with each passing week.

Goodbye Taylor Sheridan, Paramount+'s New Action Fantasy Is a Global Hit That's Taking Over Streaming

For most of Paramount+'s existence, the service has effectively run on one man's output. Taylor Sheridan built the streamer's identity almost single-handedly, with Yellowstone and its ever-expanding web of spin-offs, plus Lioness, Landman, and this fall's Marshals. According to FlixPatrol, the fourth most-watched show on Paramount+ worldwide is Avatar: Seven Havens, an animated fantasy that is currently outranking Marshals, Tulsa King, Yellowstone, and Dutton Ranch, which is to say most of the Sheridan catalog at once.

Lioness and Tulsa King have star power and years of momentum behind them, and Marshals arrived as this fall's big new Sheridan-branded launch with a built-in Yellowstone-adjacent audience. An all-ages fantasy adventure beating several of those shows on their home platform wasn't the obvious outcome. Seven Havens is the long-awaited return of the Avatar: The Last Airbender universe to series television, created once again by Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the original architects of what remains one of the most acclaimed animated shows ever made.
