CNN warns Trump White House: Restore Air Force One access or face further legal action
The White House has been excluding CNN from President Donald Trumpâs trips on Air Force One, disrupting a decades-old tradition of pooled TV coverage.
Now an attorney for CNN is warning that the network will take additional legal action if the White House continues to prevent its news crews from covering the president.
âThese efforts to retaliate and discriminate against CNN based on the content of its news coverage are mistaken, counterproductive, and unlawful,â Ted Boutrous, outside counsel for CNN, wrote in a letter to the Justice Department on Monday.
The demand letter stated that CNN âwill be forced to pursue additional judicial reliefâ if the action continues.
CNN Threatens New Legal Action Against Trump White House Over Air Force One Access
CNN is threatening to take the Trump administration back to court over its continued exclusion from Air Force One press coverage, giving the White House until Thursday to end the restrictions or face further legal action.
In a letter to the Justice Department, CNN attorney Ted Boutrous accused the administration of retaliating against the network over its reporting and demanded written confirmation by 5 p.m. ET Thursday that the White House would abandon the restrictions, CNN's Brian Stelter reported Tuesday.
"These efforts to retaliate and discriminate against CNN based on the content of its news coverage are mistaken, counterproductive, and unlawful," Boutrous wrote, per CNN.

And once again, conservative network Real America’s Voice was waiting in the wings, ready to provide pool footage after the other major networks declined to take CNN’s place.
Ever since the major networks resumed pool coverage in late September, the White House has three times given Real America’s Voice the secondary TV slot on a day CNN was excluded from the primary slot. The pattern appears to be an attempt by the White House, which took over the pool last year, to circumvent opposition among the major networks and other outlets to its efforts to restrict CNN’s press access.
