A former University of Kentucky cheerleader who admitted to killing her newborn son, whose lifeless body was found stuffed in a trash bag, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Laken Snelling, 22, pleaded guilty at Fayette Circuit Court in August to first-degree manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant.
She was sentenced to 10 years Friday after telling the court at the previous plea hearing, “Instead of helping him, I ended his life,” according to WLEX.
Prosecutors had recommended a 10-year prison term for manslaughter, and one year each forthe remaining charges.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Laken Snelling was sentenced Oct. 16 in connection with her baby’s death.
Laken Snelling pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant on Aug. 21, telling a judge, “Instead of helping him, I ended his life.”
The charges stem from an August 2025 discovery by Lexington Police. Officers were called to a home on Park Avenue for an unresponsive infant. Inside a closet, police say they found a baby boy wrapped in a towel, inside a trash bag. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and Snelling was arrested four days later.
