Police respond to home in Reading, district attorney’s office overseeing investigation
READING â Police here are seeking a 22-year-old man for questioning in connection with the fatal shooting of his mother in the family home Wednesday, officials said.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan said during a Thursday morning briefing that at around 12:38 a.m. Thursday, Reading police were called by Matthew Hanafin, a resident at 9 Central Ave., reporting he had come home after a 12-hour shift ending at 11 p.m. to find the body of his wife Andria Hanafin, 49, in the kitchen of the home
She was pronounced dead shortly after police responded to the home, Ryan said.
âItâs alleged to be domestic violence at this point, although not the traditional domestic violence situation that we think of,â Ryan said, adding that there was âan alleged dispute,â which led up to the murder.

The investigation was centered at a location on Center Ave, where a woman was found dead around 12:30 a.m. with an apparent gunshot wound.
“At approximately 12:38 a.m. Reading Police received a 911 call that the body of a 49-year-old female had been located inside a Center Avenue home,” officials said in a statement. “When police arrived on scene they located the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on scene.”
