'Scrubs' Zach Braff Gives Discouraging Ken Jenkins Return Update
Dr. Kelso may not return to Sacred Heart after all. When ABC announced the Season 2 cast of the Scrubs revival, including OGs coming back, Ken Jenkins was not among them despite being on show creator Bill Lawrence’s wish list.
“Dr. Kelso will be back next year,” Lawrence told Deadline in February, ahead of the Season 1 premiere. “It just didn’t work out this year but it will next year.”
The plan was confirmed by the revival’s showrunner Aseem Batra at the time of the Season 1 finale in April.
That may have been too big of an ask for the 86-year retired actor Jenkins who portrayed former Sacred Heart Chief of Medicine Dr. Kelso for Scrubs‘ entire nine-season original run, the first eight seasons as a series regular.

Scrubs is back on the 2026 TV schedule this week for the second season of its much-discussed revival, which began filming months ago.
